Polymer materials show various characteristic properties as compared with those of organic compounds. In this course, we introduce these characteristic properties from the viewpoints of polymer synthesis, polymer structure, and physical properties of polymers by contrasting with those of organic compounds. Furthermore, we explain the relationship between organic chemistry and polymer science, and emphasize that polymer science is extremely important in our daily life.
This course provides the fundamental concept of polymer science to be an introduction for advanced courses of polymer science.
At the end of this course, students will get the general knowledge about polymer science. That is, they will be able to explain
1) the concept of polymer science
2) typical methods of polymer synthesis
3) structure and morphology formed in polymer substances
4) typical properties of polymer substances
