[Summary of the lecture] This lecture introduces essential knowledge necessary for understating solid catalysis and the frameworks of industrial processes for producing main chemicals. It refers to petroleum refining, petroleum reforming, various selective oxidation processes (Wacker oxidation, synthesis of ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, aclolein and acryonitirile, phenol, telephthalic acid etc.). Students will have the chance to understand how practical chemical processes contribute to the global society.
[Aim of the lecture] Most chemical processes use catalysts. Students are requested to obtain essential knowledge and application abilities for challenging new production systems by grasping the background of useful technology based on catalysis.
At the end of this course students will be able to
(1) explain the basic concept of surface chemistry.
(2) understand textbooks, reviews, and articles written using basic terminology of catalysis chemistry.
(3) explain petroleum refining and reforming processes.
(4) explain various selective oxidation processes.
Catalysis, Solid catalyst, Catalytic process, Petroleum reforming, Environmental catalysis
