[Summary of the course] The course provides lectures and exercise problems on how to describe characteristics of a single particle/a group of particles and fundamental theory of the motion of a single particle/a group of particles in a liquid.
[Aim of the course] The aims of the course are for students to be able to model: flow in fluidized/fixed beds; particle behavior in a (centrifugal) thickener; formation of filtration cake and flow in cake; flow in mixing vessel; and to be able to design and operate apparatus for these purposes.
By completing this course, students will be able to:
(1)describe the characteristics of a single particle and a group of particles
(2)describe the motion of a single particle and a group of particles in a liquid
(3)describe the flow in fluidized and fixed beds
(4)describe particle behavior in a (centrifugal) thickener
(5)describe the formation of filtration cake and flow in the cake
(6)model the flow in a mixing vessel
(7)apply fundamental knowledge to design and operation of the apparatus mentioned above
charactersitics of single particle and powder, motion of single particle and powder, fluidized bed, fixed bed, (centrifugal) thickener, filtration, mixing vessel
✔ Specialist skills | Intercultural skills | Communication skills | Critical thinking skills | ✔ Practical and/or problem-solving skills |
For each topic, its fundamentals are explained, and subsequently, practices are conducted to enhance students' understanding and ability to apply fundamental knowledge to design and operation of apparatuses taught in the course.
