The field of chemical engineering is classified into three categories, i.e. process analysis, process design and process operation. Professors in each category provide students the newest developments in the category as well as papers in the lecture. Students should read and understand the contents of the papers by the seminar in the next week of the lecture. It is expected that students develop their skills in reading and understanding the newest developments in each category through discussions in seminars and the summarization in the last lecture. These skills are necessary for students to carry out research after they finish the 3rd quarter.
The purpose of this course is to learn the skill of reading, understanding technical papers written in English at the forefront of chemical engineering. In addition, it is expected that students actively engage in discussions of new developments.

Lectures include topics on each category and professors hold a seminar on papers every two weeks. After the lecture, students are given papers on the categories and they should read and understand the contents of the papers before the next seminar. In the final lecture, professors and students discuss and summarize the topics of the three categories.
