[Summary of the lecture]This course focuses on the application of the knowledge on chemical engineering to energy and environment. For students at the other undergraduate majors, this course provides opportunity to learn advanced science and technology as well as fundamentals in the fields of chemical engineering.
[Aim of the lecture]The topics introduced in this course are water treatment, hydrogen energy society, reduction of carbon dioxide emission, and effective utilization of thermal energy in industry and household sectors.
At the end of this course, students will be able to
1) Understand how chemical engineering is applied for research and development of environment.
2) Understand how chemical engineering is applied for research and development of energy.

Class 2 | Current status and challenges of hydrogen utilization technology and contribution of chemical engineering | Understand the outline of important technologies in hydrogen energy society, and explain challenges and contribution of chemical engineering. |
Class 3 | Outline and vision of water treatment technology | Explain the outline of water issues in the world and water treatment technologies. |
Class 4 | Current status and challenges of water treatment technology and contribution of chemical engineering | Understand the outline of technologies necessary for water treatment, and explain the role of chemical engineering. |
Class 5 | Outline of technology for reduction of carbon dioxide emission | Explain the outline of technologies for reduction of carbon dioxide emission. |
Class 6 | Comparison of technologies for reduction of carbon dioxide emission in transportation section | Compare technologies for reduction of carbon dioxide emission from the viewpoint of chemical engineering. |
Class 7 | Thermal energy in industrial sector: steal manufacturer and heat pump | Explain the use of thermal energy in industrial sector from the viewpoint of chemical engineering. |
Class 8 | Thermal energy in household sector: air conditioner and co-generation | Explain the use of thermal energy in household sector from the viewpoint of chemical engineering |

Students will be assessed on their understanding of the application of chemical engineering to energy and environment based on exercise problems in each class (50%) and the report (50%).
