Course description and aims

The main purpose of this lecture "Exercise in Physical Metallurgy" is to learn the basics of physical metallurgy such as defect structure, vacancy, dislocation, plane defect, diffusion through short excise in every lecture and homework. This lecture is mainly provided for the students who have not systematically studied metallurgy in their undergraduate course, but it is possible take this class for the students who want to understand basic physical metallurgy much deeper. Since this class provides excise, there is a limitation of the maximum number of students. The students have to take “Excise in Material Design” together. The students who want to take this class must read the following "Prerequisites" and contact to Prof. Hideki Hosoda via email to hosoda.h.aa@m.titech.ac.jp. After grouping, the permitted students cannot withdraw this lecture because of group works in exercise. This lecture is provided in Japanese only.

Class flow

After the short exercise, the way of thinking leading to the correct answers is provided. A few homeworks will be also provided. The students are divided in several groups for the group work. The students are recommended to use calculators (including note PC), rulers, grid paper, data books and so on. However, camera (with or without smart phone) or internet is not permitted.

Prerequisites (i.e., required knowledge, skills, courses, etc.)

Due to the effective excise, there is a limitation of the maximum number of students. The students who take ”Excise in Materials Design" have to take "Exercise in Materials Design" in 1Q together. The applicant students must contact to Prof. Hosoda by April 3rd 18:00 in FY2020 via email to hosoda.h.aa@m.titech.ac.jp with the information of major subject at undergraduate course and present supervisors. If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity, the students whose research in Master or Doctor course is related to Metallurgy are preferentially permitted. Undergraduate students may be accepted when vacancies. Research students cannot take this class. If the students cannot apply by 4/3, the application may be submitted by April 6th 12:00 when vacancies. After grouping, the permitted students cannot withdraw this lecture because of group works in exercise. This lecture is provided in Japanese only.
