Organic polymeric materials are an important soft material which supports the next generation industry. This course provides an overview of the history, environmental-benign synthesis, and applications of organic functional polymers. Also, the concept of click chemistry has recently attracted much attention from the viewpoint of efficiently producing functional polymeric materials. The important chemical reactions classified as click chemistry are introduced, and the use in polymer syntheses is explained.
By the end of this course, students will:
1) Grasp the basic concept of organic functional polymers and soft materials.
2) Understand the design and synthesis of functional polymeric materials by using living polymerization and click chemistry.
3) Know the evaluation methods of organic functional polymers and soft materials.
Functional polymers, polymer synthesis, living polymerization, click chemistry
