Course description and aims

This course introduces trends and future prospects of research and development in the human centered science and biomedical engineering which is the interdisciplinary field based on mechanical engineering, eletrical and electronic engineering, information and communications engineering, materials science and engineering. This is a constitution of Outline of Human Centered Science and Biomedical Engineering I & II.

Student learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to
1) understand cutting-edge research and development in the interdisciplinary field of human centered science and biomedical engineering based on mechanical
engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, information and communications engineering, materials science and engineering.
2) set issues based on future prospects and find their solutions in the field.

Class 1 Contributions of robot/micro technology to life-engineering by development of instruments (Toru Omata) Understand how robot/micro technology can contribute to life-engineering by development of instruments.
Class 2 Brain Machine Interface and it's applications (Yasuharu Koike) Students will understand the computational neuroscience for Brain Machine Interface and its applications.
Class 3 Interdisciplinary technology on MEMS/NEMS and biotechnology (Takeshi Hatsuzawa) Deepen understanding of interdisciplinary technology on MEMS/NEMS and Biotechnology.
Class 4 Method and applications of non-contact measurement using ultrasound (Marie Tabaru) Students will understand non-contact measurement methods and some topics.
Class 5 Medical applications of atmospheric plasmas (Akitoshi Okino) Students shall understand new atmospheric plasma sources and its applications for medical fields such as sterilization and blood coagulation.
Class 6 Biomedical applications using nanoparticles as a energy converter (Yoshitaka Kitamoto) Students will understand biomedical applications using nanoparticles with magnetic and optical properties as a energy converter.
Class 7 Bioabsorbable and biocompatible polymeric materials (Takeharu Tsuge) Students will understand fundamental properties of bioabsorbable and biocompatible polymeric materials.
