This course is an introduction to the field of polymer science, providing an overview of the synthesis, structure and properties of polymers. In addition, this course is to explain topics of high performance polymers, functional polymers, natural polymeric compounds, and bio-polymers.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Explain the basic reaction in polymer synthesis.
2) Describe the structures of polymers.
3) Explain the basic concept of polymer solution
4) Explain the relation between structures and properties of polymers.
5) Describe the various properties of polymers.
6) Explain high-performance polymers and functional polymers.
7) Explain bio-polymers.

Class 3 | Thermal property of polymer | Explain melting temperature and glass transition temperature of polymers. |
Class 4 | Polymer in solution | Study about theory of polymer solution and size of polymer and thermodynamic for polymer solution. |
Class 5 | Polymer molecular weight | Study about calculation of molecular weigiht, mass analysis, and gel permeation chromatography |
Class 6 | Characterization of polymer crystals | Study about the methods to analyze polymer crystals. |
Class 7 | Polymer synthesis (poly-condensation, poly-addition, addition-condensation) | Study about reaction of poly-condensation, poly-addition and addition-condensation. |
Class 8 | Polymer synthesis (radical polymerization, ionic polymerization) | Study about dynamics of radical polymerization, co-polymerization, anionic and cationic polymerization, co-ordination polymerization and living polymerization. |
Class 9 | Biomacromolecules | Study about natural polymeric compounds, biopolymers |
Class 10 | Properties of polymer | Study about opitical and electric properties of polymers. |
Class 11 | Properties of poymer | Study about physical properties of polymer, creep, stress relaxation, and rubber elasticity. |
Class 12 | High-performance polymers and functional polymers (1) | Study about high performance commodity plastics, composite materials, conductive polymers, recycle of plastics. |
Class 13 | High-performance polymers and functional polymers (2) | Study about biocompatible polymers and interface between polymers and living tissues. |

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
