Course description and aims

The purpose of this course is to acquire the basic knowledge of organic reactions. This course focuses on the reactive functional groups, such as amines and alcohols. After the characteristics and detailed reactions of these functional groups are explained, their roles in biomolecules are introduced.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Understand the basic mechanism of organic reactions.
2) Know the reactivity of specific functional groups and the synthesis of various organic compounds.
3) Grasp the chemical structure‒property relationship.
4) Apply the basic knowledge about the organic reactions to designing biomolecules.

Keywords

Organic synthesis, reaction mechanism, amines, biomolecules

Competencies that will be developed

Specialist skills Intercultural skills Communication skills Critical thinking skills Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

Every lesson contains not only a lecture but also a drill or application practice. Attendance is taken in every lesson.
