Course description and aims

Changes of environmental trace materials cycles affect the global environments. This course introduces measurement and analytical methods to understand the trace materials cycles in the atmosphere, ocean, terrestrial and ecosystem.
Understanding the trace materials cycles and their changes in the atmosphere, ocean, terrestrial and ecosystem is essential for the understanding of the nature of environmental problems such as global warming, environmental pollution, destroy of ecosystems. The measurement and analytical methods introduced in this course are not only for the geochemistry and environmental chemistry, but are applicable to food chemistry and medical science.

Student learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
Explain measurement and analytical methods of some important environmental trace materials
Explain the relation between environmental trace material cycles and environmental problems
Acquire the fundamental of stable isotope geochemistry

Keywords

material cycles, element cycle, chemical substances, trace materials, stable isotope

Competencies that will be developed

Specialist skills Intercultural skills Communication skills Critical thinking skills Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

At the end of class, students are given simple exercise problems related to what is taught on that day to solve. Attendance is taken in every class.
