Course description and aims

Distinguished researchers in life sciences or outstandingly active researchers, Erika Sasaki (Central Institute for Experimental Animals), Hitoshi Takizawa (Kumamoto Univ) and Yasuhisa Matsui (Tohoku Univ) in various fields such as development, differentiation and regeneration of digestive organs give introductory and detailed lectures of the latest research frontiers.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will able to:
1) Get a basic knowledge about frontiers or topics in computational life sciences or technology.
2) Acquire practical knowledge to help further research.
3) Enhance the qualifications and abilities of the Γ(gamma)-type specialist.

Class flow

This course is an intensive course, and three classes are given.
In each class, two 2 credit lectures in succession are conducted by adjunct lectures, specialists in clinical medicine, physiology, genetics followed by 1 credit hour discussion among students with the lecture on current topics and concrete problems.

Understand the essential features and matters on frontiers or topics (1) in life sciences, genetically modified experimental animals as pre-clinical research models.
Class 2 Frontiers or topics on life sciences (2): Introductory and detailed lecture on hematopoietic stem cells responding to inflammatory stress is given by the invited researcher. Understand the essential features and matters on frontiers or topics (2) in life sciences, hematopoietic stem cells responding to inflammatory stress.
Class 3 Frontiers or topics on life sciences (3): Introductory and detailed lecture on germ cell differentiation is given by an invited researcher. Understand the essential features and matters on frontiers or topics (3) in life sciences, germ cell differentiation.
