Course description and aims

Practice and exercise on X-ray diffractometer and X-ray crystal structure analysis, that leads full understanding of modern crystallography.

X-ray crystal structure analysis is one of the most important and most widely used technique to determine the three dimensional structure of materials in chemistry and materials science. Follow the recent progress of the technique such as rapid X-ray detector or structure analysis software (single crystal and powder crystal method) by understanding of the basic idea and by practicing the technique by oneself.

Student learning outcomes

Understanding of the latest X-ray diffraction method, and crystal structure determination theory.

Keywords

Crystal structure, Molecular structure, X-ray, Structure analysis, X-ray diffraction

Competencies that will be developed

Specialist skills Intercultural skills Communication skills Critical thinking skills Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

Practice of X-ray diffraction measurement in small group. Data analysis by using PC.
