Large and complex systems should be often constructed for the achievement of objectives (missions) in space explorations, space development applications, and other projects. The same situation is true for international cooperation projects and resource development projects. This lecture teaches "systems engineering (SE)" and “project management (PM)”, which are applicable during the development of new huge and complex systems. It aims at clarifying what systems and how they should be developed, and how the systems should be operated. This lecture focuses on practical uses of SE/PM; it involves hands-on activities using nano-satellite development kit, and model-based SE (MBSE) using sysML.
The student will be able to use SE&PM methodologies in their own projects, such as a robot design course at Tokyo Tech, or the development of large systems after their graduation, when they become professional engineers.

Course materials are given as handouts and projected on the screen during lectures. Nano-satellite systems are taken as an example of complex system, and their hardware/software is used to study practical SE/PM. The participants are divided into teams, and each team proposes a space project using a nano-satellite. There will be English-speaking teams and Japanese-speaking teams.

The grading is based on group points (contents of project proposal), and individual points (contribution to the group, lecture attendance, and report submission).
Preferable if student has some experience on project participation, such as satellite development or RoboCon.
