Course description and aims

This course studies modeling of real problems in operations research. Students exercise on real problems by using modeling language. In the final group work, they need to find a real problem, which can be solved by applying operations research, and they give a oral presentation of the results.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will:
1. Have acquired fundamental skills of modeling
2. Be able to write simple programs for modeling language.
3. Have gained experience in project management involving planning, scheduling, and control
4. Have developed communication and presentation skills

Class flow

Students then get to work on the project in groups of one to three. At the end of the course, students give a presentation on their achievements.

Assessment criteria and methods

The levels of attainment of student learning outcomes 1–2 (reports): 60%
The level of attainment of student learning outcomes 3-4 (presentation skills, presentation materials, and performance inthe question and answer session): 40%
