Course description and aims

In this course, the aspects and mechanisms of visual information processing for space perception, color perception, motion perception etc. are described showing recent studies. The development of visual system, the interaction between visual and other sensory systems, the methods for measuring, analyzing and modeling the functions of visual system are also described.
This will allow them to acquire advanced knowledge of human visual systems and techniques for measuring, analyzing and modeling the data obtained in psychophysical experiments.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to 1) explain the functions and mechanisms of human visual system for color perception, space perception, motion perception, attention, pattern perception, integration of sensory information, and so on and 2) use the techniques for measuring, analyzing and modeling the data obtained in psychophysical experiments.

Class flow

At the beginning of each class, solutions to exercise problems that were assigned during the previous class are reviewed. In the end of class, students are given quizzes related to the lecture given that day. To prepare for a class, students should read the course schedule section and check what topics will be covered. Required learning should be completed outside of the classroom for preparation and review purposes.
