This course "Design and Drawing of Electric Machine" enables to realize an economical and short-term manufacturing process of electrical machines satisfying the required performance in various applications and purposes. Then, it is required to know not only the knowledge already-studied in electrical engineering, such as electromagnetism and electrical machines, but also other knowledge in thermal and fluid dynamics, material mechanics, and so on. Therefore, at first, this course teaches the fundamental contents such as electric machine structures, manufacturing process, material selection, cooling technique, thermal estimation, magnetic characteristics, and so on. After that, it also provides the design procedures and exercises of single-phase transformers and synchronous generators as the examples of stationary and rotating machines. Finally, the fundamentals of technical drawings will be presented for the students to understood the design intent in design drawings and circuit diagrams.
The aim of this course is to have the following abilities:
1) To understand and explain the basic structures, materials, and principles of electric machines from the design point of view.
2) To understand and explain not only electrical theories but also thermal conduction, mechanical stiffness, air flow, and so on regarding electric machine design.
3) To perform a practical design regarding single-phase transformers and synchronous machines.
4) To interpret design drawings and circuit diagrams with understanding the fundamentals in technical drawing.
Corresponding educational goals are:
(1) Specialist skills: Fundamental specialist skills
(4) Applied skills (inquisitive thinking and/or problem-finding skills) Organization and analysis
(7) Skills acquiring a wide range of expertise, and expanding it into more advanced and other specialized areas
Electric machines, synchronous generators, transformers, electromagnetic analysis, and technical drawing.
✔ Specialist skills | Intercultural skills | Communication skills | ✔ Critical thinking skills | Practical and/or problem-solving skills |
This course presents the fundamentals required to the electric machine design, practical design procedures, basic technical drawings, and new technology for high-performance and miniaturized electric machines using numerical analysis as a lecture style class using a textbook and distributed documents. Finally, this course requires the students to submit a report regarding the own design of a salient-pole synchronous generator.
