Course description and aims

This course keeps in mind the various aspects of system design while studying specific examples of practical system design. Students learn how their experiences in design and creation tie into the real world.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) understand the complicate and detailed practical system design.
2) understand the elements and control of practical system, and the basic principle of design.
3) count the design items to create new practical system.
4) understand the general design theory as a common principle in practical system design.

Keywords

system design, practical system, design theory

Competencies that will be developed

Specialist skills Intercultural skills Communication skills Critical thinking skills Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

Students will acquire design methods for several practical systems through lectures. By examining issues in and discussing improvement designs for those practical systems, students will gain a deep understanding of the essence of practical system design. This will be repeated for 3 to 4 practical systems, allowing students to learn general design theory that is not dependent on a practical system.

Course schedule/Required learning

  Course schedule Required learning
Class 1 The instructor will explain the methodology for repeating lectures and examining topics, lecturing on a general form of system design. What’s the system design
Class 2 Lecturing on practical system number 1, the problem of improving the practical system concerned and designing a new system will be explained and assigned as homework. understand the practical system design
Class 3 Students will give presentation on improvement topic for practical system number 1, discussion will be advanced with students and instructor, discussing feasibility of improvement proposal System creation
Class 4 The instructor will lecture on practical system number 2, and problem of improving practical system concerned and designing new system will be explained and assigned as homework. understand the practical system design
Class 5 Students will give presentation on improvement topic for practical system number 2, advance discussion with students and instructor, and discuss feasibility of improvement proposal. System creation
Class 6 Lecture is given on practical system number 3, and the problem of improving the practical system concerned and designing a new system is explained and given as homework. understand the practical system design
Class 7 Students will give presentation on improvement topic for practical system number 3, and advance the discussion with other students and the instructor, discussing the feasibility of the improvement proposals. create system
Class 8 Students will organize the design methods for the practical system from the perspective of general design theory to understand the essence of design actions Generalization of system design
