Course description and aims

Biomedical engineering is a discipline that advances knowledge in engineering, biology and medicine, and improves human health through cross-disciplinary activities that integrate the engineering sciences with the biomedical sciences and clinical practice. In this introductory course, general concept about biomedical instruments will be taught through series of lecture.

Student learning outcomes

This course provides basics of physiology/anatomy and covers several update topics in biomedical instrumentation. Topics include imaging systems, endoscopes and catheters, surgical devises and systems, circulatory artificial organs, sensory artificial organs, structural artificial organs, and rehabilitation devises and systems.

Keywords

biomedical instrumentation, surgery, diagnosis, rehabilitation, anatomy, physiology

Competencies that will be developed

Specialist skills Intercultural skills Communication skills Critical thinking skills Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

Mainly lecture given by Prof. Yagi. At the end of the term, students are required to give a poster presentation about assignment.
