This course focuses the fundamentals on the design processes of systems. Students design and make the remote controlled machine which will be used to solve the given subject. The subject is given in the first class, and the presentations on the concept of the machine are made by students in the 4th class. The contest of the machines made by students is held as the final presentation in the last class.
In order to create the useful systems, we need to optimize the functions of the system under the limitations on safety, efficiency, cost, and productivity. This laboratory course, in which students make the machines under the given rule with limited materials, enables students to understand and acquire the fundamentals of design processes of systems widely applicable to create the actual systems.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Explain the basic processes of design.
2) Make the simple remote controlled machine.
3) Make the presentation on their design.
4) Explain the fundamental properties of electronic motors and pneumatic actuators.

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend a certain length of time outside of class on preparation and review (including for assignments), as specified by the Tokyo Institute of Technology Rules on Undergraduate Learning (東京工業大学学修規程) and the Tokyo Institute of Technology Rules on Graduate Learning (東京工業大学大学院学修規程), for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
Materials will be provided if they are required.
Materials will be provided if they are required.
The performance of the machines made by students, presentations on their machines, and the results of the contest will be used for the assessment of students’ knowledge on fundamentals of the design processes, and their creativeness.
No conditions.
