Course description and aims

【 Overview 】
In this lecture, technology development strategy of the Taguchi Method and how to utilize its techniques are lectured.
【 Aim 】
It becomes a necessary condition for a company's survival to continuously provide products that exceed the expectations of customers. For manufacturing companies, the most important management task is to continuously introduce differentiated products with unique technologies to the market. In order to launch products that utilize new technologies, it is essential to ensure the robustness of functions at the technology development stage, which is the upstream of manufacturing. This is because, in many cases, it is necessary to change the structure of the system and the level of many design parameters in order to ensure robustness with high performance. Such activities cannot be carried out at the product design stage after the detailed design has been decided. The Taguchi method is a strategy and technique to ensure the robustness of products in the technology development stage, and it is an essential subject as a standard acquisition technique for engineering graduates.

Student learning outcomes

To understand the technology development strategy of the Taguchi method, to be able to design an evaluation plan for the technology based on a two-stage design of parameter design, and robustness quantification by SN ratio. Furthermore, to understand the aim of the CS-T method (Causality Search T Method), which is a technique for devising new system structures and design parameters.

Course taught by instructors with work experience

Applicable How instructors' work experience benefits the course
A lecturer who is engaged in quality control work using Taguchi methods in a company will give practical lectures from basics to applications of Taguchi methods based on experience at actual production factory.
