Course description and aims

By exposing students to tips of making good presentations, students will improve their presentation skills and communication skills to interact with the audience.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course:
Students will understand what makes presentations better.
Students will be able to utilize language effectively to convey their messages in English.

Class 1 Orientation Watch TED video: "How to sound smart in your TEDx Talk" Discussion on elements that make the presentation fun. pauses, eye contact, body language      List the skills necessary for appealing presentation  
Class 2 Taking a poll Students learn how to engage the whole audience at the beginning of a presentation.  Learn the skill for audience engagement : taking a poll
Class 3 Humor Students learn how to incorporate jokes in presentations by learning a few approaches to humor.    Learn the skill for audience engagement : humor and sarcasm
Class 4 Having control of rhythm Students learn how to attract the audience into the speech by utilizing pauses, rhetorical questions, stress, etc.       Learn communication skills such as the use of pauses and rhetorical questions
Class 5 Structure Students learn how to construct speeches in an effective manner. Learn presentation structuring skills
Class 6 Persentation prep in groups Students will prepare a 7 minute presentation in groups based on a provided theme.         Learn group meeting and planning skills
Class 7  Group presentations The listeners will be writing down feedback for each presentation and the finished paper will be graded as a final exam.   Learn group presentation and application of skills   
Class 8 Group presentations The listeners will be writing down feedback for each presentation and the finished paper will be graded as a final exam.  Give feedback to peers in terms of verbal presentation skills
