講義の概要とねらい

In the in the centenarian era, a society that fosters resilience to changes in living function (a “living function resilient society”) is required now. User experience and interaction design is becoming quintessentially important for creating such society.

This course “User experience and interaction design ” deals with a systematic design for improving our quality of life (QoL) through deeply understanding our daily lives with technologies. The systematic design indicates daily life design from the viewpoint of three layers: a) body functions and structures layer, b) activities layer, and c) social participation layer.

By the end of the course, students will be able to :
- imagine innovative concepts for improving our daily life through user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design.
- analysis and design our daily life structurally from the viewpoints of a) body functions and structures layer, b) activities layer, and c) social participation layer. Comprehensive viewpoints from these three layers are known as "International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)," which was proposed by the World Health Organization in 2001.
- present new ideas for improving quality of life through UX/UI design based on ICF

授業の進め方

Concretely, in this course, we will offer three major components: (1) a lecture on how to analyze our daily lives using the concept of International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF (*1)), which was proposed by the World Health Organization in 2001 and that is one of the most standardized methods for analyzing our daily lives, (2) a lecture on useful technologies and methods for collecting and analyzing data from daily lives, and (3) group works for designing a better life for solving real problems in daily lives using smart technologies based on the concept of ICF.

In the lecture (1), we will also introduce real problem to be solved using recent statistics and a variety of video clips. In the lecture (2), participants can learn some programming methods for information process on physiological data, daily activity data and social participation data. So it is recommended to bring your laptop if you have. In the final activities (3), we try to explore innovative solutions through group activities. So in this class, we welcome the participation of those who want to use engineering technology to change society better.
