Course description and aims

This course provides theories and research frameworks in social innovation and social entrepreneurship. Through the case studies, discussions, and group works, students can aquire the abilities that contribute to make a bridge between the theory and practice.

· Understand the background and characteristics of social innovation and social entrepreneurship.
· Aquire the abliliy to discover social issues and to present and implement the solutions in a sustainable manner.

Class flow

Firstly, students learnUnderstand the characteristics of social entrepreneurship.
Secondly, students discuss based on case studies.
Thirdly, students develop social entrepreneurship business model.

Class 5 Lecture by guest speekers Listen to the social entrepreneurs talk about his/ her experience, and understand the reality of social entrepreneurship.

Class 8 Problem finding Define key issues and challenges that the community is facing.
Class 9 Solution and its social value Explain how to create and implement solutions.
Class 10 Sustainable business model Develop a social business model for the solution.
Class 11 Interim presentation and discussion Share the business models and revise them.
Class 12 Hypothesis and test Identify hypothesises that support the business models, and develop verification plans.
Class 13 Modification of model based on verification results Modify the models reflecting the verification results.
Class 14 Group presentations Make group presentation with peer review.
Class 15 Final proposal Develop final proposals reflecting the comments from reviewers.
