Course description and aims

[Summary of the lecture] In this lecture, outline of safety in chemical research, administration of first aid. and risk management will be explained.
[Aim of the lecture] In chemical research, not only technical methods but also effective safety measures to prevent accidents by risk management are important. Moreover, it is also important to secure own health and safety by knowing laws related to safety and environment and to acquire morals of chemists such as prevention of environmental load. After this lecture and a following lecture "Environment Preservation and Chemical Safety II", students acquire the ability to carry out chemical research safely. Enrollment of Environment Preservation and Chemical Safety II, which consists of concrete managements of reagents and gases, and use of fire extinguisher, is desirable.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students acquire the following ability:
(1) Ability to carry out chemical experiments safely.
(2) Ability to provide appropriate first aid.
(3) Ability to manage risk in chemical laboratory.
