Course description and aims

This lecture, followed to Advanced Polymer Synthesis I, will introduce advanced researches on polymer synthesis. At first ring-opening polymerization as is placed between addition polymerization and step polymerization, will be explained with emphasis on the meaning and usefulness.

Student learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Explain the mechanisms of both addition and step-growth polymerizations from viewpoint of organic chemistry.
2) Explain the mechanisms and characteristics of lring-opening polymerizations.
3) Explain the supramolecular and structure-unique polymers and their synthetic methods.

Class flow

In the lecture, characteristics on ring-opening polymerization in detail. Researchers working on most advanced research works on supramolecular polymers will be introduced along with their meaning in polymer science, while student will present his/her search result on supramolecular polymers during the lecture. Additional explanation and related important meanings of the research will be discussed.
