Course description and aims

This course offers knowledge on mechatronics technology including mechanics, electronics and computer software. Firstly definition and applications of mechatronics will be explained. The elements of mechatronics technology including mechanics (mechanical elements and mechanisms), functional elements (actuators and sensors), electronic circuits and microcomputers (hardware and software) will then be explained. Finally case studies of applications of mechatronics technology such as robots will be taught.

3. Design simple mechatronics systems

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Assessment criteria and methods

Students' understandings of mechatronics systems and their elements and ability to design fundamental mechatronics systems are accessed via several practices and endterm examination.
