Course description and aims

Measurement technology not only is essential for quality control of industrial products but also has an important role in research and development.
The aim of this course is to have students learn principles and characteristics of various measurement methods with basic knowledge for precise measurements. This course provides a comprehensive description of SI units and measurement standards, and familiarize students with various measurement techniques for geometry, pressure, temperature and electricity. Furthermore, the analyses and processes of measurement data are introduced.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Understand measurement standards and metrics.
2) Understand principles and characteristics of various measurement methods or apparatuses.
3) Learn analyses and processes of measurement data and practice them.

Keywords

SI units, measurement standards, geometric measurements, pressure, temperature, electricity measurements, data analyses, signal processing

Competencies that will be developed

Specialist skills Intercultural skills Communication skills Critical thinking skills Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

Towards the end of class, students are given exercise problems related to the lecture given that day as necessary.
