Course description and aims

This course aims to become a bridge between general education at high school and specialized education in the subjects of No.200 or higher. This course also aims to cultivate not only basic knowledge of engineering but also sense and attitude for problem solving so that the freshmen of School of Engineering can learn actively specialized subjects after sophomore.
By taking all Engineering literacy I-IV, the students experience the following all seven subjects in Engineering Literacy.
【Manufacturing process 】
【Mechanical Design (Steamship)】
【Mechanical Design (CAD)】
【Control】
【Wireless electric car with microcomputer】
【Communication, Computation, and Intelligent Information Processing】
【Management Technology (Industrial Engineering and Economics)】

Student learning outcomes

By completing this course, students will be able to:
【Mechanical Design (CAD)】
1) carry out structural and frequency analysis of mechanical parts with CAE.
2) create 3D model of mechanical parts in 3D CAD.
3) design mechanical parts using CAD and CAE.
【Control】
1) understand the basic principle of measurement by sensors.
2) understand the basic principle of feedback control.
3) master the design method of control system by using simulation software.

Keywords

【Mechanical Design (CAD)】
CAD(Computer Aided Design), CAE(Computer Aided Engineering,)
【Control】
Measurement, Control, System

Competencies that will be developed

Specialist skills Intercultural skills Communication skills Critical thinking skills Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

【Mechanical Design (CAD)】
Through this course, students can learn fundamental basics of CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) by using Inventor, a tool for CAD. The first half of this lecture shows how to use CAE and CAD. The latter half of the lecture is a design competition using CAE and CAD.
【Control】
This course introduces the basic principle of feedback control using the signal measured by sensors, and holds a competition to help them to understand the effectiveness. The first half of this lecture shows how to use the software. The latter half of the lecture is a competition using the line tracing car.
