Course description and aims

This is an exercise course corresponding to the lecture course Quantum Mechanics II (ZUB.Q206).
Students will be able to deepen their understanding by solving problems related to the lecture course.

Student learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
* Explain the energy spectrum of a hydrogen atom and its behavior in a background magnetic field by using Schroedinger's equation.
* Calculate the cross sections of scattering processes.

Keywords

Schroedinger's equation, angular momentum, spin, hydrogen atom, Zeeman effect, fine structure, scattering cross section, Rutherford scattering, partial wave expansion

Competencies that will be developed

Specialist skills Intercultural skills Communication skills Critical thinking skills Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

In every class students will be given some problems and solve them.
Solutions will be explained in the latter half of the class.
