Course schedule | Required learning | |
---|---|---|
Class 1 | Mathematics:Distribution of prime numbers | Understand the role of prime numbers and the method of studying their distribution. |
Class 2 | Mathematics:Riemann's zeta function | Understand the Euler product and the analytic continuation of the Riemann zeta function. |
Class 3 | Mathematics:Various zeta funcitons | Understand the meaning of vairous zeta functions in modern number theory |
Class 4 | Physics:Wave equation | Explain the relationship between the coupled oscilator and the wave equation. |
Class 5 | Physics:Properties of wave | Solve the one dimensional wave equation with the fixed boundary condition. |
Class 6 | Physics:Electromagnetic wave, waves in quantum mechanics | Derive the wave equation from the Maxwell equation. |
Class 7 | Physics:Waves in comtemporaly physics | Explain the principles of gravitational wave observations. |
Class 8 | Earth and Planetary Sciences:Co-evolution of solid Earth and surface environment | The Earth's surface environment and biosphere have evolved over 4.6 billion years, being shaken violently by external factors such as volcanic activity and bolide impacts. In this lecture, the latest results of research targeting important geological era, which records the Earth's major changes, will be introduced with the aim to learn how the history of the Earth and life is being deciphered based on scientific evidence. |
Class 9 | Earth and Planetary Sciences:Diversity and habitability of exoplanets | Exoplanetary systems show large diversity. The origin of the diversity is being discussed, and the formation process of the solar system is being reexamined. On the other hand, it has been found that there are many earth-sized planets in the "habitable zone" where the oceans may exist on the surface of the planets, stimulating discussions on extraterrestrial life have been very active. In this lecture, we overview these topics based on up-to-date knowledge. |
Class 10 | Earth and Planetary Sciences:Is earthquake prection practical? | Understand seismic and volcanic disasters in Japan |
Class 11 | Chemistry:Current multidisciplinary chemistry | Understand current chemistry not only for fundamental science but also for chemical and biological nanotechnology. |
Class 12 | Chemistry:Challenge to drug discovery by chemistry | Understand the importance of basic chemistry research in corporate research. |
Class 13 | Chemistry:Nanometer-sized Jigsaw puzzle | Understand the importance of basic chemistry. |
Class 14 | Chemistry:What I learned from research and development at companies | Understand the role and importance of basic chemistry in product development in companies. |
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
