Course description and aims

International academic exchange is important in the field of Earth and planetary sciences. Graduates of Dept. of Earth and Planetary Sciences are expected to transmit their research results to the world as researchers and work on a world scale as engineers. For these purposes, it is indispensable to develop communication skills in English. In this course, students will make and carry out a plan for the development of their English skills by themselves. International students who are already fluent in English can earn credit by studying academic Japanese.

Class 1 Examples of suitable learning activities include, but not limited to: - discuss research contents with foreign researchers regularly - acquire English presentation and writing skills aiming at presenting at an international conference - develop debating skills in English by taking English lessons provided by the department - enhance English skills by studying and making researches abroad - participating an internship program abroad Plan, carry out, and evaluate your own learning activities by yourself.

Based on your learning proposal and activity report. The instructor will evaluate if your proposal clearly defines your learning goals and if your report clearly describes your self-evaluation of the learning activities.
