The 21st century should be "the age of light" because science and technology involving light is expected to play central roles in important fields such as energy, environment and information.
In this class, The students learn about photochemistry, which is one of the main disciplines in this field, especially various chemical reactions induced by light.
The students should understand photochemistry, especially the various photochemical reactions, and acquire knowledge about its application fields.
Photochemistry, Photochemical reactions, Photophysical processes
✔ Specialist skills | Intercultural skills | Communication skills | Critical thinking skills | Practical and/or problem-solving skills |
First, fundamental knowledges for logical understanding of photochemical reactions will be taught, then, the students will learn the correlation between the electronic structure of excited states of organic compounds generated by absorbing light and their properties and some typical photochemical reactions from these excited states. Practical applications will be also described in detail.
Based on the knowledge, the students will learn about photophysical properties of metal complexes and inorganic semiconductors, their photochemical reactivity and application to luminescent materials and photocatalyst of which progresses are remarkable in recent years. Finally, I will introduce significance and latest researches on solar-energy conversion to chemical energy, chemiluminescence and electroluminescence.
