[Summary of the lecture]
This course focuses on comprehensive understanding of physical property and function of polymer used in energy-related research field from molecular scale to macroscopic scale in addition to obtaining knowledge of energy-related functional polymers. Students will have a chance to learn background of physical property of polymer in energy-related research field, and physical property and function of polymer solution, gel, and liquid crystal. In addition, thermal, mechanical, electrical, and optical properties in solid will be explained.
[Aim of the lecture]
Polymer materials are essential in the field of energy-related research field. Polymer has advantages in function and performance compared with ceramics and metals. This course introduces molecular design of functional polymers towards new applications by understanding existing energy-related functional polymers from the viewpoint of function and performance.
At the end of this course, students will be able to
(1) explain role and function of polymers in energy-related research field.
(2) explain physical properties of polymers in energy-related research field.
(3) explain how to design polymers showing desired function.
Polymer solution, gel, liquid crystal, thermal property, mechanical property, electrical property, battery, light emission, functional polymer material
|✔ Specialist skills||Intercultural skills||Communication skills||Critical thinking skills||✔ Practical and/or problem-solving skills|
At the beginning of each class, solutions to exercise problems assigned during the previous class are reviewed. Towards the end of class, students are given exercise problems related to what is taught on that day to solve.
