Course description and aims

In this class, we will study about environmentally-friendly polymers from viewpoint of chemistry. Especially, the relationship between energy/environmental problems and polymer materials will be discussed. The purpose of this class is to review on basical knowledge about polymer synthesis and manufacturing to study environment benign materials and cutting-edge research, as well as to deepen the understanding of the strategy for developing new materials.

Student learning outcomes

While polymer materials are widely used in our daily life, environmental problems such as marine pollution have been seious in recent years. This class deals the relationship between energy/environmental issues and polymer materials, focusing on biodegradable and/or bio-based polymer materials. We will also look back on the fundamental polymer science to understand the production and applications of the environmentally-friendly polymers.
