This course focuses on the quantitative calculations and computer simulations of solution equilibria including thermodynamics, acid-base, complexation, precipitation, redox etc.
The calculations and simulations based on knowledge studied in Basic Analytical Chemistry facilitate further understanding of the above topics. Analytical solutions are not necessarily derived in complex systems, which are encountered in experiments as well as in nature. Computer simulation often helps us find out what occur in such complex systems.
By the end of this course students will:
1) Understand basic solution thermodynamics.
2) Be able to calculated the concentrations of chemical species based on solution equilibria.
3) Be able to simulate titration curves based on various principle
4) Be able to apply gained knowledge to practical problems, e.g. increase in carbonate concentration in sea water.

1) At the beginning of each class, solutions to exercise problems that were assigned during the previous class are reviewed.
2) Students are given exercise problems related to the lecture given in Basic Analytical Chemistry to solve.
3) Before coming to class, students are required to read the corresponding part of the textbook.
