Course description and aims

In this course, students carry out advanced organic experiments by their hand to understand advanced organic chemistry that was learned in the class of Organic Chemistry II and Organic Chemistry III. They also learn the advanced operational methods for organic experiments and structural analysis of organic molecules. The experimental results are summarized and submitted as report for four times. We also discuss the experimental results to understand advanced organic chemistry in detail at the class of Exercise in Advanced Chemistry II in the same quarter.

Although students can learn advanced organic chemistry through lectures and reading textbooks, they also need to know the advanced operational methods for organic experiments to investigate real research in laboratory in Chemistry Department. To learn specific operations in organic experiments, they need to carry out the experiments by their hands. This course also supports students understand advanced organic chemistry that was learned from lectures and textbooks in detail.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Perform advanced organic chemical experiments
2) Perform advanced structural analysis of organic compounds
3) Explain advanced experimental methods for organic chemical reactions and the experimental results
4) Adopt their advanced organic chemical knowledge that was learned from textbook to understand real organic chemical reactions
