Course description and aims

Dojo for Management and Society: Introduction B is one of the fundamental contents of AGL's Dojo Program, and it aims to cultivate students' abilities such as recognition of problems in globalized society commencing with business activities, skills and attitude for solving the social problems, and those for creation of new value in the society.
Students cope with the social problem recognition and upskilling in collaboration with other students, whose major fields and/or nationality are different, in the belonging Dojo (Yamada Dojo or Matsuki Dojo) under the facilitation of the Master of Dojo, and enhance his/her abilities of communication, international awareness and consensus building at the same time. The abilities cultivated in this course are essential not only for the successive Dojo programs, i.e. Group Work and Completion Projects, but also for planning and accomplish the practical projects in the Off-Campus Program in AGL. These abilities are expected to be effective for the research activities in the major field.

Student learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
(1) Recognize the social problems, and have a sense of purpose and an attitude as a leader.
(2) Propose ideas for applying the state-of-the-art science and technology to create innovation.
(3) Explicate the concept and effectiveness of the proposed idea logically.

Class flow

Process of classes depends on the character of Dojo and the theme of each class, but generally it consists of group workshops and/or discussion among students and invited lecturers. To make discussion with the invited lecturers, preparatory research may be required.

Assessment criteria and methods

Students will be assessed on the achievement of the learning outcomes such as the understanding of social problems, proposing the ideas for creating solution, and so on, as well as on the rationality of discussion and contribution of collaboration work.

In principle, students must have passed the entrance screening for AGL program, and have decided the belonging Dojo.

Other

Yamada Dojo : The early adopter of emerging concepts/methodologies for generating and creating "innovations", such as "Design Thinking" and "Lean Launchpad". This Dojo understands that developing and executing new fields, regardless careers, should have value and be a mission for leaders and is concentrating on trainings for "generating new ideas", "exploring mechnism of needs" and executing such idea as an individual and/or team. In "DONYU", "generating new ideas" should be main issue.
Matsuki dojo:Faculties of Matsuki dojo had significant achievements in the business community. Three experienced business person will train participants to be leaders who will manage, effectively and efficiently, organizations not only in business but in academia or international fields. Under quasi real environment, participants will experience important essence of leadership.
You will find the course valuable as you may accumulate the experiences through the discussion and debate with real enterprise, current top leaders and being at the place of social events.
