Course description and aims
This course aims to cultivate the basis of students' abilities to recognize the role that they should play in a team of different expertise, to present vision by themselves or to share the vision of others, to build consensus with the community of stakeholders, and to make the consensus into a concrete shape by using his/her own expertise and abilities of others. In addition, students will develop the ability to act based on specific real-world assumptions.
Student learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
(1) learn communication tools that work effectively in the multidisciplinary teams; set personal learning goals to be an effective team member.
(2) develop relationship-building skills to connect with people from different disciplines; logical explanation, effective presentation.
(3) develop practical skills to realize one's idea and present the new value; planning, concept-building, execution.
(4) set the long-term goal achieved by taking leadership, with clear motivation.
(5) establish logic to enhance possibility of your ideas, and make others accept your ideas.

Class flow
This course consists of workshops aimed to learn personal goal setting, ideation process, logical thinking, prototyping, etc. Workshop themes are selected to help students' understanding of useful concepts and practical methods to develop leadership. The theme setting of each workshop/discussion depends on the students' intentions and the social situation at the time.
Schedule and policy of the course will be explained in an orientation session held at the beginning of each semester (class S: end of April, schedule will be announced at the end of March; class F: orientation will be at the end of September, schedule will be announced at the end of August).

| Class 1 | 4-6kinds of workshops will be offered in this course and each workshop has points. Students are being requested to select workshop(s) by considering their schedule and interest and to gain over 12 points to pass this course. While the workshops will be presented at the orientation session, the workshops may be offered among the workshops such as: (1) Book Dialogue for Leadership (2x3 points); Students will read books on (i) leadership development or (ii) insights on future society, and following a unique book club style called “Active Book Dialogue (ABD)”. (2) Scenario Planning (2x4 points); Introductory lectures and practice of “Scenario Planning” as a method to think strategically about multiple scenarios in the future using multiple perspectives. Throuth this course students will cultivate leadership in the society with complexity and uncertainties. (3) 1-day System x Design Thinking Workshop (5 points); Creating new value by incorporating Design Thinking; with concepts of both "Creative Confidence" and "User Centric", and System Thinking; approaching to the solution by considering whole structure of the problem, relation and dependance each other. (4) Negotiation process for consensus building (3x2 points); Training for negotiation and communication to achieve "win-win", not "compromise" through role-play. (5) Egaku Workshop/Art-based Creativity Development Program (3 points); Finding multi-dimensional view by utilizing "arts". Training to make your emotional feeling arts and verbalization. (6) Non-violent Communication (4x2 points); A communication method to develop a relationship that enables mutual understanding and co-creation with people who have different values and ways of thinking, rather than a relationship of confrontation and coercion. (7) Interactive Art Appreciation (4 points); Through the appreciation of art, students learn the value of listening to other people's various ideas and expand their frames of thinking. (8) Design Thinking for Your Creative Practice (5x2 points); 3 tutors who are engaged in teaching “Design Thinking” in Stanford Univ./d.school, The University of Texas Austin, and other international organizations will be invited for facilitating a workshop. (9) 1-day IdeaThon (5 points); the workshop for generating new business idea. * We will provide additional workshops that contribute to improving students' leadership skills, as well as special workshops by external lecturers. | A mini-report at the end of each class about your discovery and what you would like to learn more using it. |

Assessment criteria and methods
Students will select and join workshops among candidates and make the points with each workshop reach more than 12.
Students will present a report of each workshop attended about object, outline of workshop, and results.
Students will be assessed on the achievement of the learning outcomes as well as on the rationality of discussion and contribution to collaboration work.

This course is designed for graduate students who are not registered to ToTAL (students such as TAC-MI, SSS). For students in ToTAL and those who would like to sign up for more workshops over rather than just 12 points, we recommend taking 2 credits ToTAL courses (TAL.W502/503).
