Course description and aims

This course aims to cultivate the basis of students' abilities to recognize the role that they should play in a team of different expertise, to present vision by themselves or to share the vision of others, to build consensus with the community of stakeholders, and to make the consensus into a concrete shape by using his/her own expertise and abilities of others.

Student learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
(1) Understand the concept of Leadership/Followership in a team of different expertise.
(2) Propose ideas for solving the social issues.
(3) Explicate the effectiveness of the proposed idea logically.

Class flow

Process of this course basically consists of group workshop and discussion among students for understanding the concept of Leadership/Followership and for learning the way of thinking to create new value in the society. Theme of the workshop/discussion depends on the students' intentions and the social situation at the time.
Schedule and policy of the course will be explained in an orientation session held at the beginning of each semester (announced at the ToTAL website and bulletin boards.)

Class 1 Presentations about students' research theme. To try explaining one's research to non-specialists and find what prevents understanding of others about the theme.
Class 2 A book club regarding leadership and teamwork. To read and summarize materials with a clear goal and communicate the summary to others.
Class 3 Leadership communication lab (1) : communication To understand the communication techniques especially useful when working in a team.
Class 4 Leadership communication lab (2) : team building and project facilitation To understand the communication techniques especially useful when working in a team.
Class 5 Career design seminar by reflective thinking and interviewing each other To learn and practice the concept of active listening and interviewing. Students then apply reflective thoughts on their thinking patterns and research theme from a long perspective to decide their next action.
Class 6 Design thinking workshop To understand the concept and the way of Design Thinking through lectures and group work among students.
Class 7 Presentation and discussion: each student will give a presentation about the purpose and way of exerting his/her leadership. A presentation must include whether and how their thoughts on it have changed during the course. Assessment criteria and methods

Students will be assessed on the achievement of the learning outcomes such as the understanding of social problems, proposing the ideas for creating solution, and so on, as well as on the rationality of discussion and contribution to collaboration work.
