Outline of lecture

This course aims to deepen students understanding of the actual system of Japanese companies and industries through a series of lectures and study tours given by company professional staff, and the graduates of Tokyo Tech who work for Japanese companies. This course is also designed for the students who might be aiming at or considering a job/internship opportunity in Japan. Lectures will be given on the Japanese industrial system, working environment, company cultures and required communication/language skills.
Student attendance is expected at all study tours, briefing session on October 7 and at least four lectures.

Related and/or prerequisite courses

Due to the passenger capacity of the bus, the number of students other than YSEP who can take this class is limited. The selection of the class participants will be conducted in the course briefing on October 7.
The following students have priority in participation.
1. YSEP students (SJCI is a compulsory course for them)
2. Tokyo Tech master course regular students

Evaluation

Evaluation: Class Participation 40%, Short reports 30%, Reports 30%
1. Class attendance:
Attendance is expected at all study tours, briefing session on October 7 and at least four lectures.
2. Short reports after the lectures:
Students are requested to write a short report (quiz) by the given sheet just after each lecture.
3. Reports on the study tours:
Students are requested to submit a report after each study tour.
No fixed form for the report but the length of report on the tour should be in 1 A4 page in English and be submitted to the TA within one week after each tour.
It should be sent with the title 窶彝eport _ the tour place_ your student number and name窶 to the following e-mail address:
ysep.sjci2#gmail.com (please substitute @ for #)
Note:
When you send your report by e-mail, TA will send you the confirmation of its receipt. If you don't receive the confirmation within a week, you are requested to contact the teacher since the report might be missing.

Supplement

Please keep the following rules and manner when you visit a factory.
(Rule 1) Visiting a factory
1. Please put on low-heeled shoes. Sandals and mules will be inappropriate from the safety reasons.
2. Participants are recommended to wear long pants/slacks and bring long sleeve shirts/jackets and socks with you from the safety reasons (you might be requested to change to safety shoes in some factories).
(Rule 2) When you are in a plant or a factory
1. Taking a picture is prohibited unless you are given the permission.
2. Cell phone should not be used while walking in the factory.
3. Please do not come close to the staffs while they are operating.
4. Please be careful about the trucks, locomotives and so on in the plant.
5. Please follow the designated line on the ground of the factory.
6. Please do not touch the products, unless you are allowed.
7. Please do not put your hand in the pocket while walking.
