Outline of lecture

This project-based course explores current social, ethical and cultural issues in science and technology around the world. The focus is on developing skills in critical thinking and debating from multiple viewpoints, exploring different perspectives around the world. Using materials collected by students, the 窶socio-technical窶 issues of the day are examined closely. Participation in lunchtime 窶弋hink Aloud Lunch窶 sessions is required, emphasising cross-cultural understanding and discussion skills. In class, students select one theme to study in depth and develop a group presentation detailing its differing viewpoints.

Participation in the weekly "Think Aloud! LUNCH" sessions (Wednesday lunchtimes) is required.

Evaluation

Attendance and participation in group research and discussions (50%). A final group presentation (30%) and short (1-2 pages) individual 窶徨eflection窶 report (20%).
