自らの意見を正確に伝達する高度の口頭表現技法を身につけるため, speech-givingの訓練を行う。

講義の目的

To improve participants' skills in speech-writing and speech-giving on research or general topics for lay audiences.

2nd class (Wed. 4/16): Dynamic Presentations, chapter 2
3rd class (Wed. 4/23): Analyze speeches from past contests & brainstorm speech topics
4th class (Wed. 4/30): Dynamic Presentations, chapter 3
5th class (Wed. 5/14): Dynamic Presentations, chapter 6
6th class (Wed. 5/21): Dynamic Presentations, chapter 7; chapter 8
7th class (Wed. 5/28): Dynamic Presentations, chapter 8
8th class (Wed. 6/4): Dynamic Presentations, chapter 9
Speech topic decided; outline speech in class; discuss
9th class (Wed. 6/11): First draft of speech due by email and on paper

Class participation and quality of three speech drafts, showing evidence of having learned techniques studied in class and presented in chapters of the textbook: Attendance and participation 45%; 1st draft of speech 10%; 2nd draft of speech 15%; 3rd draft of speech 30%
