講義概要
戦略的ディベートでは，フォーマルな方法に基づいて，賛成派，反対派のチームに分かれ，自らの意見をまとめ，説得力のある方法で述べ，また相手側に対して反論をすることにより，ディベート術を実践的に学習することを目的とする。本科目は，平成19年度後学期に開講した「英国式ディベートの実践」の名称を変更したものであるため，「英国式ディベートの実践」を履修した学生は，履修を不可とする。
講義の目的
本講義では，フォーマルな方法に基づいて，論点を整理した上で、説得力のある論理的なディベートを展開して行く本格的ディベート術を学習する。同じ人数のチームを作り、賛成派、反対派に分かれて、ディベートを行う。ディベートに参加しない人は両チームの評価を行う。
（偶数年は日本語で、奇数年は英語で行う）
（受講者数は最大２５名とする）
Based on a formal, well structured methodology, this 7 week course aims to teach strategic debating skills. In every class a debate will take place between 2 teams of the same size. Those who are observers are asked to make comments on the debate afterwards.
Maximum class size is 25.
The course will be given in Japanese in even years, English in odd years.

The topics may be related to MOT or science technology policy, management, society, philosophy, ethics or a general topic.
Examples of debate topics
・「天才とは，１のひらめきと，９９の努力である。」
A genius requires 1 inspiration, 99 effort
・「地球温暖化の解決に向けて，個人の行動の変革より，政府主導による国際協力を中心とした取り組みが不可欠である」
To solve global warming, one would require a government led international collaborative effort rather than changing behaviour of individuals
・「電子メディアが充実した今、新聞や本のような紙メディアは必要ではない」
With the rapid use of electronic media, we won't need paper media such as newspapers or books

This course began in 2007. The title of the course used to be 'British Style Debating Skills', so if one has already taken that course, one ought not take this course.

毎回、次の講義のディベートのトピックを与えるので、前以て準備しておく。
Suggestions for topics are welcome. Every week, the topic for the next debate will be announced so the students are requested to make preparations in advance.
