Purpose of lecture

Inorganic materials chemistry is concerned with the synthesis, structure, properties and applications of inorganic solid materials. The study of structure-property relations is very fruitful area and one with immence possibilities for the development of new materials or materials with unusual combination of properties.

Plan of lecture

1.What is materials chemistry
2.Crystal structure
3.Chemical bonding in solids
4.Defect, nonstoichiometry
5.Interpretation of phase transion
6.Ionic and electronic conductivity
7.Magnetic properties
8.Solids state electrochemistry

Textbook and reference

蜿り譖ク遲
Basic Solid State Chemistry, A. R. West (Kodansha)
Chemistry of Fine Inorganic Materials, N. Nakanishi (Sankyo)
Inorganic Chemistry for Graduate School, S. Iwamoto (Kodansha)

Evaluation

Evaluation will be based on the examination and report at the end of the semester. Class participation will be optionally considered.

Comments from lecturer

Variation of solid properties is quite interesting. We hope many students to experience exiting procedure to create novel solid-state materials.
