講義概要
海外の学会において英語で発表ができるようなレベルを目指して、英語プレゼンテーションの技術を実践的に学ぶ。プレゼンテーションの様々な要素（構成、言語表現、資料の作成法、話し方、非言語的な表現、質疑応答など）について学びながら、練習を重ねて自分のものにして行く。相互評価をすることによって人に批判的に見られることに慣れ、互いに学び合う。
The objective of this course is to improve students’ English presentation skills to the level at which they can do understandable and effective presentations at international conferences in their fields. The course covers various aspects of presentation including language skills, effective creation of vidual aides, contingent non-verbal elements and confidence-raising. Reflecting the purpose, classes will be interactive with many chances of practice, self-observation and feedback/advice-giving sessions with peers and instructors.
講義の目的
海外の学会において英語で発表ができるようなレベルを目指して、英語プレゼンテーションの技術を実践的に学ぶ。履修者は言語的、非言語的両面において自分の弱点を意識し、個別のフィードバックや助言を受けて能力向上に努める。
The objective of this course is to improve students’ English presentation skills to the level at which they can do understandable and effective presentations at international conferences in their fields. The participants will be guided to find their weaknesses in both verbal and non-verbal aspects and work on improvements by practicing with individualized feedback/advice.
講義計画
1.プレゼンテーションの要素（１－２講）
効果的なプレゼンテーションができるようになるために、それを構成する要素について学ぶ。内容の効果的配列、構成、資料の作成法、効果的
な言語表現、話し方、表情やアイコンタクトなどの非言語的表現について、実例を見せながら説明する。
2.実践（１）（３－４講）
自分の専門と興味分野について一人１０分発表（ビデオ撮影）。自己評価、相互評価を通じて弱点、学ぶべき点を意識する。
3.効果的なプレゼンテーションの内容構成・資料の作成法（５－６講）
英語的な構成（序論、本論、結論）、ディスコース（総論を各論が支え、簡潔かつ論理的に展開）について例を見ながら学び、自分の発表
（１０－１５分）をアウトラインから作る。それに合わせて効果的なスライド、資料を用意する。
4.実践（２）（７－８講）
中間発表（ビデオ撮影）。自己評価、相互評価を通じて改善点を考える。
5.効果的な言語表現と話し方（９－１０講）
プレゼンテーションを効果的にする様々な言語表現と話し方（速さの調整、抑揚など）について例を見ながら学び、実践（２）の発表を改善す
る。
6.効果的で自分に合う非言語的表現法・時間配分・質問への対処（１１－１２講）
アイコンタクト、表情、身振り手振りなどの非言語的表現について、例を分析しながら、自分に合う効果的なものを見出し、実践（２）の発表
の改善に生かす。更に時間配分や質問への対処法を学ぶ。
7.実践（３）＝最終発表（１５－２０分）（１３－１４講）
学んだことを生かして、実践（２）を改善したものを練習する。相互フィードバックや教員のアドバイスによって最終発表に向けて準備する。
8.最終発表（１５講）
中間発表（ビデオ撮影）。自己評価、相互評価を通じて改善点を考える。
1. 1st and 2nd classes
Orientation
Introduction of the various elements that constitute an effective presentation
2. 3nd and 4th classes
First presentation (Introduction of one’s background and research interests: 5 minutes)
Self-observation by video-taping
Feedback sessions with peers and instructors
3. 5th and 6th classes
Important elements of an effective presentation (with video-taped models and examples)
- Content and organization
- Effective visual aids (slides, handouts, etc.)
4. 7th and 8th classes
Second presentation (10-15 min. presentation on one’s past or on-going research)
Feedback/advice-giving sessions with peers and instructors
5. 9th and 10th classes
More practice sessions focusing on improving language use (delivery, grammatical control,
articulate/effective expressions, use of transition markers, etc.)
6. 11th and 12th classes
Contingent elements
- effective use of non-verbal communication skills (eye-contact, body language, etc)
- time management
- confidence-raising (how to deal with anxiety)
- tips for handling Q&A sessions
7. 13th and 14th classes
Practice with individualized feedback/advice
8. 15th classes
Final presentation (15-20 min. presentation on one’s past or on-going research)
Final evaluation both by peers and instructors

ハンドアウト配布。
No textbook: all necessary material will be provided, and the reference of additional books will also be given based on individual needs.
関連科目・履修の条件等
自分の考えを表現できる程度の基礎的スピーキング能力があることが望ましい。
Participants should have basic English speaking ability to express their ideas.
成績評価
出席、３回の発表、原稿や資料の提出、自己評価、相互評価活動への参加などに基づく総合評価（平常点50％、中間発表20%、最終発表30%)
The make-up of the final grade is as follows:
- active participation with the first presentation and homework included (50%)
- second presentation (20%)
- final presentation (30%)
