講義概要

The aim of this course is to provide students with good opportunities to improve their skills of communication in English for the international conference and academic journals. Students should practice as many times as possible in each session.

FIRST, the students will be supplied with general ideas how to compose academic papers in English, which should be followed by students’ practice (assignment 1).

SECONDLY, some hints for talk at the international conference will be given to students who will be required to revise the paper (assignment 1) into a draft of talk (assignment 2).

THIRDLY, based on the draft (assignment 2), the students should compose their own PowerPoint presentations for their talks after the lecture how to create them (assignment 3).

FINALLY, the students will be obligated to deliver their papers with PowerPoint presentation (assignment 4) followed by peer review.

講義の目的

Target: Academic Presentation with PowerPoint in English
i) How to compose and deliver your paper in English
ii) How to compose an effective PowerPoint presentation in English
iii) How to make discussions in English

(この授業では、英語で学術論文を書き、それに基づいてパワーポイントを使用しながら国際学会で口頭発表(英語)を行うことができるよう、講義と実践を繰り返しながらスキルを身につけることを目的としています。)

27.04.11 1.Lecture: Article for an academic journal in English
        2.Practice: Compose a draft of the article
      → Submit the first draft (as an attachment) online by 23:59 on 10.05.2011
25.05.11 1. Revision of the draft submitted by 10.05.11 with tutor’s comments
        2. Lecture: Talk in English
        3. Practice: Compose a draft of the talk
         → Submit the first draft (as an attachment) online by 23:59 on 01.06.2011
08.06.11 1. Revision of the draft submitted by 01.06.11 with tutor’s comments
        2. Practice: Practice the talk in front of the audience (followed by peer reviews)
         (♦ If possible, PowerPoint session could be started)
15.06.11 1. Lecture: PowerPoint presentation in English
        2. Practice: Compose a PowerPoint presentation
22.06.11 Revision of the draft of PowerPoint presentation with tutor’s comments + peer reviews
29.06.11 Presentation: presentation 15-20 min + discussion + peer review
06.07.11 Presentation: presentation 15-20 min + discussion + peer review

Assessment: Attendance (30%); Assignment (30%); Presentation (40%)
(成績評価:出席3割;課題提出3割;期末に行うプレゼンテーション4割 の比率で総合評価します。)
