講義概要

The aim of this course is to provide students with good opportunities to improve their skills of communication in English for the international conference and academic journals. Students should practice as many times as possible in each session.

FIRST, the students will be supplied with general ideas how to compose academic papers in English, which should be followed by students’ practice (assignment 1).

SECONDLY, some hints for talk at the international conference will be given to students who will be required to revise the paper (assignment 1) into a draft of talk (assignment 2).

THIRDLY, based on the draft (assignment 2), the students should compose their own PowerPoint presentations for their talks after the lecture how to create them (assignment 3).

FINALLY, the students will be obligated to deliver their papers with PowerPoint presentation (assignment 4) followed by peer review.

講義の目的

Here is the target of this module.
i) How to compose and deliver your paper in English
ii) How to compose an effective Powerpoint presentation in English
iii) How to make discussions in English

(この授業では、英語で学術論文を書き、それに基づいてパワーポイントを使用しながら国際学会で発表(英語)を行うことができるよう、講義と実践を繰り返しながらスキルを身につけることを目的としています。)

        2. Lecture: Talk
        3. Practice: Compose a draft of talk
        → Submit the first draft (as an attachment) online by 27.05.2010
02.06.10 1. Revision of the draft of talk with tutor’s comments
        2. How to read out the draft (followed by peer reviews)
          (If possible, Powerpoint session could be started)
16.06.10 Compose a Powerpoint file
        1. Lecture: How to compose Powerpoint file in English
        2. Practice: Powerpoint file composition
        → Submit the first draft (as an attachment) online by 24.06.2010
30.06.10 Revision of the draft of Powerpoint file with tutor’s comments
        → Submit the final version of Powerpoint file and the draft for reading out (as an attachment)
         online by 08.07.2010
14.07.10 Presentation: presentation 15-20 min + discussion + peer review
21.07.10 Presentation: presentation 15-20 min + discussion + peer review

PC & personal dictionary (printed/electronic) should be brought with the students at all the sessions.
