This lecture provides essential knowledge to understand water quality dynamics both in water environments and water treatment facility. Thus, it will support you to understand water quality issues and build a numerical framework, so called “water quality model”, for study fields of your interest.

This lecture provides essential knowledge to understand water quality dynamics both in water environments and water treatment facility. Key topics are advection, diffusion, kinetics, interface chemistry, microbiology, nutrient dynamics, and so forth. Regarding each of key aspects of water quality, we cover its basic concept and mathematical models to describe water quality under a variety of hydrodynamic conditions. Thus, this lecture will support you to understand water quality issues and build a numerical framework, so called “water quality models”, for study fields of your interest. In every class, students are required to work on exercises to promote theoretical and mathematical understanding.

It is preferable for students to take the following lectures in advance.
- Water Management for Environmental Health(水環境計画,土木・環境工学科)
- Aquatic Environmental Science (Department of Civil Engineering)
- Lectures related to numerical modeling
