講義概要

This is the step "2" course for the International Graduate Program of Urban Earthquake Engineering. Japanese students and foreign students are required to work together to solve the given problem.

講義の目的

This class will intend to foster the ability of international collaboration between Japanese and foreign students through the field work and the work in the laboratory. The subject will be given for each group. Final presentation and also the intermediate report are required.

講義計画

This is the step "2" course for the International Graduate Program of Urban Earthquake Engineering. Japanese students and foreign students are required to work together to solve the given problem.

(1) Introduction (April 16th)
(a) Brief guidance of the class
(b) Intruductory lecture 1 "Integration of Development and Disaster Management" by Prof. Kaji
(c) Introductory lecture 2 "Microzonation Technology for Seismic Risk Assessment" by Prof. Yamanaka
(d) Grouping for exercise on vulnerability assessment
Study Area (depending on the number of participants)
Meguro-ku : 3 Districts (M1,M2,M3)
Shinagawa-ku : 3 Districts (S1,S2,S3)
One Group: 2 or 3 persons / district

(2) Individual work (April 23)
Each person will work on the seismic design code of respective country and prepare the PPT file to be presented on April 30.

(3) Presentation of the seismic design code for each country (April 30)
(a) Presentation
(b) Distribution of documents and brief guidance of exercise
Distributed Documents:
(1) Brochure of "District-based Assessment of Vulnerability to Earthquake Disaster"
(2) District data table
(3) District map of land use and buildings by structure
(4) White map of district for field survey (1/2000 scale)

(4) Group discussion (May 7)
(a) To discuss and criticize the methodology of vulnerability assessment in the group based on the document 1
- Are the factors consisted of vulnerability to building collapse appropriate?
- Are the factors consisted of vulnerability to fire appropriate?
- Are the methodologies applied to both of vulnerabilities reasonable?
Or should be advanced in what way?
(b) To analyze the vulnerability of respective district based on documents 2 and 3
- What level of vulnerabilities to building and fire do the district data and map indicate?
- Is the result of assessment by the Government reasonable?
(c) To exchange views with other groups
- Is the result of assessment by the Government reasonable compared with the other districts?
- If not, what is the points do you feel unacceptable?
(Note) Each group is requested to submit the 3-pages discussion summery to Prof. Niwa (Midorigaoka-group) or Prof. Kaji (Suzukakedai-group).
It is not always necessary to arrange this group discussion on the day.

(5) Field Survey (May 16 (Sat) 10:00 AM-2:00 PM )
To make an entry of the items on the white map through walking around the district.
- Survey items about vulnerability to buildings: Slope, Precipice, Building structure, Building age, Building
facade materials, Falling materials such as signboard, and so on
- Survey items about vulnerability to fire: Road width, Park and open space, Crowdedness of buildings, Building
usage, Wooden houses, Dangerous materials, Traffic condition, and so on

(6) Integration of field survey and data analysis, report writing, and preparation for presentation (May 21)
- To summarize the results of field survey and integrate them with the district statistical data, and reassess
both the vulnerabilities to building collapse and fire.
- To write the report (around 5 pages in A4 size paper)
- To prepare PPT for presentation
(Note) Deadline of the report is 29 May 2009.
To Prof. Niwa (Midorigaoka-group)
To Prof. Kaji (Suzukakedai-group)
It is not always necessary to arrange this group discussion on the day.

(7) Final Presentation (June 4)
Presentation time allocated to one group may depend on the number of participants.
The members of GCOE project are supposed to attend the class.
20 copies of PPT print-out for distribution are also requested.

教科書・参考書等

Necessary documents and brochures will be given by the instructor.

関連科目・履修の条件等

It is highly recommended to take the international communication class (STEP 1 course) offered by the G-COE International course.

成績評価
